Teacher availability in Kupwara schools monitored as per PTR norms: Govt

Srinagar, March 28: The Jammu and Kashmir Government has said that the availability of teaching staff in schools across Kupwara district, including institutions in Lolab constituency and Machil area, is being closely monitored in line with the prescribed Pupil Teacher Ratio (PTR) norms.

Replying to a question raised by MLA Qaysar Jamshaid Lone, the Minister in charge of School Education said that staffing levels in Middle, High, and Higher Secondary Schools are broadly being maintained as per these norms.

However, the Minister acknowledged that a shortage persists at the higher secondary level due to 421 vacant lecturer posts across the district. As a result, some institutions are currently being managed through internal arrangements. These include rationalization of available staff and the engagement of Cluster Resource Coordinators (CRCs), wherever necessary.

The Minister further informed the House that the department is continuously reviewing the staffing situation and taking appropriate measures to address gaps. Special attention is being given to ensure uninterrupted academic functioning in remote and far-flung areas such as Machil and Lolab.

The government reiterated its commitment to maintaining educational standards and meeting the academic needs of students across the district.
